Enjoying our cabin in Northern Arizona, I decided to set up my easel and paint for the day. The rains had been plentiful and the grasses lush, with wildflowers sprinkled throughout the forest floor. Ponderosa and Pinyon pines are plentiful here along with a variety of Junipers. The slow growing Alligator Bark Junipers can reach 500 to 800 years old. These ancient gnarled sculptural trees have a grey bark that resembles alligator skin, with bluish green evergreen leaves. We have many of these slow growing beauties, hundreds of years old. I can only imagine what they have seen and experienced over the years.
