Sun Kissed

“Sun Kissed” was inspired by the flower carts of Spain along the romantic tree lined La Rambla. My first painting from this area, “Ramblas Bouquet”, captures this wonderful scene as the young woman chooses her sunflowers and those to accent them. Next, I was drawn further into the exquisite beauty of the flowers themselves, taking in the range of color and texture. The sweet aroma captivates me as each petal curves and leaf turns.

Why do flowers entrance us so? Throughout time and culture we have been drawn to the beauty and fragrance of flowers. Somehow we intuitively choose our favorite flower or the perfect kind as a gift to uplift, share our joy or love, or to comfort those we care about. I have many favorites, it’s so hard to choose just one!

The sunflowers drew me closer, a kind of beckoning within me. For many the sunflower brings such joy and light, strength and happiness, a constant searching for the light. She turns her face to the sun soaking up the warmth and life giving rays. For many the sunflower symbolizes spiritual faith and a symbol of God’s love. I can see why…flowers seem to speak to us, touch us in a way that reaches our hearts.
