The Butterfly and the Flower

“Once there was a man who asked God for a butterfly and a flower.  But instead, God gave him a cactus and a caterpillar.  The man was sad.  He didn’t understand why his request was mistaken.  He thought – oh well, God has too many people to care for…..and decided not to question.

After some time, the man went to check up on his request that he had left forgotten.  To his surprise, from the thorny and ugly cactus, a beautiful flower had grown and the unsightly caterpillar had been transformed into the most beautiful butterfly!

Things are not always as they seem, maybe our situation feels like the thorny cactus or we feel like the unsightly caterpillar. Maybe instead of walking away, we should sit in our circumstance for a time and learn and observe, to trust in the process, learn from the cactus and the caterpillar and appreciate them right where they are. In time they will transform. No matter what we are going through, seasons come and go, and we grow the most having walked through the desert. Beauty and strength are on the other side. Enjoy and learn from the journey, the ups and downs, the good and the bad, they all shape us into the vibrant butterfly and cactus bloom.
