Sunlit Grace

Sunlit Grace

Delicate pale blooms adorn the Teddy Bear Cholla (Cylindopuntia Bigelovii) during springtime in the desert. This cactus, native to the Sonoran and Mohave desert, is anything but cuddly with her dense thorn pattern. Yet there is grace and beauty amongst the thorns. As they are backlit by the sunlight, these cholla glow with a striking halo effect all around the edges. And then there are the gorgeous flowers, such lacey delicacy amongst the harsh thorns. There are varieties that bloom orange, yellow, fuchsia, and this wonderful pale green-yellow flower touched gently with pink. I have each of these beauties just outside my door. As soft petals fade to near white, they reflect all the colors around them including wonderful blues and lavenders from the sky and shadows. I see grace with strength, gentleness with resolve, light amongst the shadows.
