Mule deer are abundant throughout the Southwest and are not limited to any one type of terrain. They are found within sparse, low deserts to high forested mountains. Their name is derived from their large ears similar to that of a mule. These beauties frequent my own front yard and surrounding desert landscape. How graceful and majestic they are in their springtime desert backdrop. Palo Verde trees and sage bushes sway in the breeze as the deer pause in the shade. They catch my gaze, oh dear, then leisurely explore the desert trail before them.
