The Mogollon Rim of Arizona has woven its way through nearly every chapter of my life. From childhood adventures to years spent hiking, off-roading and exploring with my husband, family, and beautiful friends, these mountains and winding roads hold countless memories. There is something about returning here that always feels like coming home, my happy place.

For my birthday, I wanted to escape the valley heat traveling the Forest Road 300 once again, following the Rim through familiar country we stopped for a relaxing lunch at a spectacular overlook watching the rain clouds dance and the light break through. We then traveled much further to a place that has become especially sacred to us—the place where we scattered my dad’s ashes and come to remember him. As I painted, I wanted to capture more than the beauty and magic of the Rim. I wanted to capture that feeling of looking across a landscape that somehow holds the years—the adventures, the people we love, those still beside us and those we carry with us. Some places become part of who we are. We return to them again and again, and somehow, they remember.
