Peek-a-Boo

Tucked safely beneath a blooming Lantana bush, tiny desert bunnies—called kits—peek out as they begin exploring the world around them. Nearby, Mama rests watchfully in the cool shade, sheltering her little ones from the warmth of the midday sun.

Desert cottontails are plentiful throughout the Sonoran Desert and are known for their soft cotton-like tails and large translucent ears that glow beautifully in the light. With ears nearly too big for their tiny bodies, these little kits wear their babyhood beautifully.

There is something so tender about the innocence new life brings. Inspired by the babies and new beginnings blossoming within my own family, this painting is a gentle celebration of love, hope, and the wonder found in life’s smallest moments.
