Spring Courting
Gambel’s Quail are some of the most loved, and best known, birds in the southwest desert with their distinctive features and recognizable birdsong. They live in dense low-lying vegetation, amongst Mesquite and Palo Verde trees. Quail coveys spend their midday in shaded, brushy spots for protection from predators and to rest.
I most love them for the traits that I admire, when they bond, they become mated for life. Both adults take care of their young equally when it comes to nesting, incubating eggs, and teaching their young. What wonderful qualities to observe and experience.
