Silence
It always amazes me how stepping out into nature quiets my soul. The hustle and bustle of everyday life and commitments can sometimes overtake us if we let it. I know I have struggled with this of late, have you? I find choosing to spend time outdoors, getting away from it all soothing and comforting, a beckoning forward. I think we are wired this way, to truly experience the beauty and creation all around us. It’s difficult to really see and appreciate with all the clutter in our minds and hearts. It is a laying it down, a silence of the mind and the heart that opens us to see… and experience… and to feel our Creator everywhere we look.
While painting this, I received an email from my Dad, wow. How perfect this quote and now a reminder posted right next to my easel. May I, may we, always remember…
“An empty heart God fills. Even Almighty God will not fill a heart that is full – full of pride, bitterness, jealousy – we must give these things up. As long as we are holding these things, God cannot fill it. Silence of the heart, not only of the mouth – that too is necessary – but more, that silence of the mind, silence of the eyes, silence of the touch. Then you can hear him everywhere: in the closing of the door, in the person who needs you, in the birds that sing, in the flowers, the animals – that silence which is wonder and praise. Why? Because God is everywhere and you can see and hear him.” – Mother Teresa
