Morning Glow
I recently competed in my first virtual wet paint competition, part of the 2020 National Oil Painters of America convention. I spent days exploring my property at sunrise for just the right location. The morning before the event, there was an incredibly brilliant sunrise, probably in part because of the West Coast wildfire smoke. I set up early the next morning, and probably for the same reason the conditions were terrible for wanting to paint the sunrise!! As in there was none…no light and shadow either, seriously?! So I painted from life and from memory of the day before. On day two of the event, I hoped for the brilliant sunrise again to make my adjustments and complete the painting strong. No sunrise again! Deep into my memory banks I went to finish this little jewel called Morning Glow.
