Further down the Salt River adventuring on our kayaks I was surprised to come upon a beautiful cow grazing the waters edge! Always in search of wild Mustangs and other abundant wildlife seeing a cow along the river was a first. Where did it come from? Did it belong to someone? He seemed so peaceful and content next to serene and quiet waters. His reflection danced in the afternoon light mesmerizing us as we slowly passed by.

Psalm 23 drifted through my mind…the LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.

Upon returning home I researched learning he was a Hereford bull. They came from Herefordshire England in 1817 and were met with great success. “The Hereford cow is unrivaled when it comes to efficiency, docility, longevity and the hardiness to survive in a tough environment.”Said Shane Bedwell, American Hereford Association. Females are highly regarded for their maternal qualities.
