Lanterns at My Door

This spring I hung a gorgeous basket of assorted succulents just outside my studio door. One day a familiar succulent surprised me with a gift I had never seen before. Dangling from its branches were the most curious little blooms—fiery coral and gold, their petals curling and dancing like tiny lanterns or bells suspended in the light.
How easily we can pass by the familiar, never knowing what beauty is quietly waiting to unfold. Perhaps that is part of the wonder of creation: there is always something new to notice, something unexpected to delight us, if only we are willing to look.
These little lanterns stopped me in my tracks, a beautiful reminder that sometimes the extraordinary is waiting right outside our door.
