Enchanted was inspired by a breathtaking and enchanting walk through the Tofino rain forest in Canada years ago.

Taking in the incredible old growth Western cedars, spruce, and hemlocks–more than a thousand years old–I felt as if I were in a fairytale! Damp and misty with ferns and mushrooms abounding, I wondered just what might be hiding nearby. Fairies and gnomes came to mind along with woodland creatures.

Located on Meares island, just a short boat ride from Tofino, is the Big Tree Trail with some of the largest trees in British Columbia. The largest is known as the Hanging Garden with its massive branches and hanging moss. Wooden boardwalks traverse the forest floor winding through this enchanted wonderland.

Upon returning home, I took a little time to research our elk and learned that after dwindling populations, in1913, 83 Rocky Mountain elk from Yellowstone were transplanted near Chevelon Lake in the Arizona White Mountains region, today the elk population has grown to over 35,000. Interesting!
