Desert Messenger
A cardinal couple frequents our yard each year nesting in my Palo Verde trees. How striking their contrast against golden blooms and green leaves. Their distinct birdsong is music to my ears, I daydream what they might be saying to each other. Thoughts also drift to my dad, knowing a sighting often symbolizes a loved one’s presence acting as a messenger of hope, comfort, and love, or a message from God himself. A visit can also represent positive new beginnings and spiritual strength. In Native American cultures, cardinals are messengers of the spirit world bringing guidance and protection, especially to those grieving.
This painting will be featured during Cowgirl Up! At the Sigler (formerly Desert Caballeros) Western Museum in Wickenburg, AZ. Opening weekend is, March 27-29. The exhibition and sale runs from March 27 – May 31, 2026
