Venturing out from Port Angeles we explored the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National park along with Crescent Lake. Venturing out from Port Angeles we explored the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National park along with Lake Crescent near the small community of Piedmont . This incredible lake is known for its brilliant blue crystal clear waters. This lake was formed when glaciers cut through carving out deep valleys during the last Ice Age and is the second deepest lake in Washington. Lake Crescent is a popular recreation area with lodging, hiking trails through the wooded areas surrounding, and getting out on the lake itself. What struck me in this scene was the amazing late afternoon light and shadow interplay, my favorite time of day.

I started this painting as a demo during the Hidden in the Hills open studio tour and finished it at home. Upon sharing it with the husband of a participating artist, he shared a great story with me. They are from the area and spent a week there while faced with a crossroads of sorts, especially with his career. He was there soul searching and praying, contemplating their future and seeking direction. What better place can there be to get close to nature, clear your mind, and seek divine counsel? The day after returning home he received a job offer in Arizona and off they went to a wonderful new life here. For this, I title the painting Contemplation.
