Light in the Desert

Light in the Desert

Being an avid road and mountain bike rider, and always wanting to be a part of something larger than him, my husband participates in a bicycle ride to Mexico supporting 1Mission each year. 207Miles  (207Miles.com) is a two-day cycling event from Peoria to Rocky Point, Mexico. Launched out of a desire to increase awareness of the poverty so close to home, and to raise funds for those fighting it, 207Miles is now impacting families throughout Mexico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. Riders and volunteers do this for the love of riding and to raise awareness  for those less fortunate than us.

I drive one of the support vehicles cheering them on and offering assistance! Much of the time running chase is spent on the side of the road awaiting the riders to pass by, and then you move to the next stop. Of course I take full advantage of the opportunity to explore and study my surroundings. This painting “Light in the Desert”, was from an area before you reach Ajo. The afternoon sun was back lighting the Cholla against the mountains beyond in such a beautiful way. I loved not only the light contrast but the amazing color contrast as well. How awesome it is to share in something important to both my husband and myself and to capture great painting ideas while I am at it!
